New York Civil Rights Attorney Eric Sanders, Esq., of The Sanders Firm, P.C., alleges in a federal lawsuit that Hilton Worldwide, Inc., and Hilton Grand Vacations Company, LLC, fostered a hostile work environment by ignoring and condoning racially offensive behavior in the workplace
April 13, 2012 (New York-NY) – James R. Oliver says working at the Hilton West 57th Street Club is ‘not so suite.’
Oliver, who is African American, said that he started working at the Hilton West 57th Street Club on July 21, 2009 and has endured racially offensive behavior from several Caucasian, Asian and Light Skinned Hispanic employees, supervisors and/or managers but did not quit because he feared he would not find another job in the current economic climate.
The lawsuit alleges that defendants’ HILTON; HILTON GRAND; LAURIE DEL SOLE and SANDRA DESCHAMPS intentionally load their employment opportunities with Caucasian, Asian and/or Light Skinned Hispanic employees, rarely if ever, hire African-American and/or other Dark Skinned employees and if they do hire African-American and/or Dark Skinned employees, they are relegated to support positions, no management opportunities.
On or about September 13, 2011, Housekeeper/Houseman Jose Renta (Hispanic Male) notified him via text message, that someone drew a highly offensive racist depiction of an African-American aka “Darky” a “Blackface” with his name “Jay” and another co-worker Housekeeper/Houseman Kevin Gonzalez (Hispanic Male) name on a vendor box found in one of the Housekeeping closets, defendants’ HILTON; HILTON GRAND and LAURIE DEL SOLE through its agent defendant SANDRA DESCHAMPS never took any corrective action.
